METHODS TO REQUEST INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RECORDS

Please be specific in the nature of your request in order for FOIA Officers to process your request more efficiently. (Illinois law does not require you to submit on the FOIA Request Form, but the request should be in writing). *Electronic records can be requested and will be provided, as allowed under the law.

FUNCTION
The Veterans Assistance Commission - is a local government unit funded by the County Government of McHenry County. The Commission consists of delegates and alternates from the veterans service organizations located in McHenry County. The salaried staff consists of a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, 3 Veteran Service Officers, Office Coordinator, Office Clerk, and 4-5 per diem Drivers.
Functions are based on the needs of the veterans community as determined by the Commission. Authority is under 330 ILCS 45 the Military Veterans Assistance Act and Articles VI & IX of the Illinois Public Aid Code.
Services provided Include:
- Financial Assistance for low income veteran families and surviving spouses
- Caregiver Relief
- Transportation to Medical Appointments at the Lovell FHCC and Community Care
- Professional Advocacy for Veterans and eligible family members filing a claim with the US Department of Veterans Affairs
- Veterans Wellness Programs including Outdoors, Socialization, and Education.
