Social Media Policy

McHenry County permits the use of authorized social media platforms to inform, connect, and engage residents and stakeholders within the county relating to topics posted by McHenry County.  McHenry County reserves the right, at any time, to remove comments, links, photos, and/or videos that do not relate to McHenry County business or fit the criteria for prohibited content.  Prohibited content includes the following:

  • Comments or content containing profane, vulgar, obscene, threatening, or harassing language
  • Comments or content that is not topically related to the subject matter of the corresponding post
  • Personal attacks
  • Defamatory statements or content
  • Any and all content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation
  • Sexual content or links to sexual content
  • Solicitations of commerce or advertisements
  • Personal information including, but not necessarily limited to, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, bank account numbers, content posted by children under the age of 13, and/or any other private information as defined by State, Local, or Federal Law
  • Conduct that is or encourages illegal activity
  • Comments that support or oppose political campaigns, ballot measures, or referendums

McHenry County does not endorse nor adopt any position, opinion, product, business, or statement contained in public comments.
