Criminal

The Criminal Division of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office prosecutes a range of offenses from traffic violations to misdemeanors to felonies, as we fight to keep McHenry County one of the safest counties in Illinois.

The Criminal Division employs a wide range of tools to punish and correct criminal behavior. The Division regularly conducts trials and seeks to incarcerate the most dangerous criminals in the county. At the same time, the Criminal Division actively participates in the McHenry County Specialty Courts and provides two deferred prosecution programs, in an effort to rehabilitate offenders when possible.

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office has developed special units and points of emphasis aimed at addressing specific problems within our community. The Criminal Division has units devoted full-time to prosecuting domestic violence and violent crimes against children.

Our Special Prosecutions Division handles the most serious crimes that occur in McHenry County. Led by a prosecutor with more than thirty years of experience, our special prosecutors see that the worst offenders in the county receive justice for their crimes.

Our overdose investigation taskforce coordinates with law enforcement to investigate all overdose deaths in the community and prosecutes the charge of Drug-Induced Homicide whenever possible. The success of the overdose investigation task force has prompted police departments and prosecutors from around the country to consult with the task force regarding how to best investigate these cases.

The Criminal Division emphasizes protecting local families and business owners by aggressively prosecuting theft related offenses that violate our citizens’ rights to live and do business with a sense of security.

The Criminal Division also takes a hardline approach to the prosecution of drunk and high drivers, because all people in McHenry County deserve to feel safe on the road.
