This Division is responsible for administering US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the Housing Investment Partnership (HOME) grant, Continuum of Care (CoC) grants, Treasury Emergency Assistance Programs, and the Lead-based Paint Hazard Reduction Grant.

2025 CDBG and HOME Grants - Apply today!

The McHenry County Department of Planning and Development - Community Development Division (CD Division) is accepting applications for competitive allocation of 2025 CDBG and HOME funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) from Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 4:00 PM through Friday, January 17, 2025 at 4:00 PM. McHenry County estimates an allocation of $1,400,000 (One Million Four Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents) in CDBG funding and $600,000 (Six Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents) in HOME funding from HUD. Late applications will not be accepted. For planning purposes, 2025 CDBG and HOME funding will be available starting on or after October 1, 2025.

HOME applications for Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) and Homeowner-Occupied Rehabilitation activities will not be accepted under this funding notice.

Lead and Healthy Homes Program

McHenry County’s Department of Planning and Development – Community Development Division is now accepting online applications for the County’s 2024-2028 Lead and Healthy Homes program. Program funding was granted from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The McHenry County Lead Program’s mission is to eliminate childhood lead poisoning throughout our county. We are committed to making lead safe homes available to all children under the age of 6 (0-5) by addressing health hazards where children are or can be present.

Rental property tenants may apply; however, priority will be given to qualifying homeowners who are under 80% area median income (AMI) as listed under Federal guidelines.

Properties must:

Be private, residential properties;
Be built before 1978 (1977 and older);
Be within McHenry County;
Be occupied by a low-income household, OR vacant and marketed for a low-income household; and
Have a child under the age of 6 who lives in the home, or visits often.
