If payment of current taxes has not been received by the McHenry County Treasurer's Office a certified letter will be sent sometime after the 2nd installment due date informing the homeowner of any outstanding balances. Once taxes are sold, a notice prepared by the tax buyer, called a "Take Notice," is mailed by the County Clerk's Office within 4 1/2 months from the date of the Tax Sale.
It is very important that the County has the correct information for your PIN. You can check the mailing address for the current year by looking up your tax bill on the Treasurer's website.
A notice is also placed on any subsequent tax bills mailed out.
If you know or suspect that you have delinquent taxes or that your taxes have been sold, contact the County Clerk's Office at 815-334-4242.
