Voting by Mail

An application is available from your our office (see below) or at https://elections.il.gov/electionoperations/VotingByMail.aspx. To register to vote or check your registration status, visit https://ova.elections.il.gov.
The deadline to mail vote by mail ballots for the 2024 General Election has passed.
Once ballots are available for distribution, please allow 7 business days for delivery. If you do not receive your ballot or have questions, you may contact our office at (815) 334-4242 or by email at votebymail@mchenrycountyil.gov.
What do I do when I receive my ballot?
- Your ballot may be surrendered to an Election Judge at an Early voting location or on Election Day at your designated polling place,
- returned to the County Clerk by mail,
- delivered to one of our ballot drop boxes, or
- delivered in person. In person delivery can be by either the voter or by any person authorized by the voter, or by a company licensed as a motor carrier of property by the Illinois Commerce Commission under the Illinois Commercial Transportation Law, which is engaged in the business of making deliveries. If delivered, the ballot must be received by the election authority prior to the polls closing (at 7:00 PM) on Election Day. If mailed, you must affix proper postage, and the ballot must be postmarked by Election Day (please note that special rules apply to a voter who has been admitted to a hospital, nursing home or rehabilitation center within 14 days of the election; you may contact your election authority for further information if this is your situation).
