Job Title:
Bilingual Circulation Clerk (Part-Time - 20 hours/week)


Job Description:
The McHenry Public Library District is seeking an onsite Bilingual Circulation Clerk. This individual is responsible for providing excellent customer service to library patrons through registration and renewal of library cards, processing library materials for check-in and check-out, sorting and shelving library materials, and processing money transactions. The salary for this position ranges between $15.00 to $15.77 per hour, depending on qualifications. 

This position requires the applicant to be fluent in both English and Spanish. 

The ideal candidate for this position should possess a "director of first impressions" mindset, exhibit exceptional organizational and problem-solving abilities, demonstrate a keen attention to detail, and be capable of delivering outstanding customer service to our patrons.

The schedules for this position are listed below and may change. Flexibility in scheduling is needed to assist with coverage during staff vacations and absences. 

Schedule A: Monday 12:45-9:15, Wednesday 8:45-12:45, Friday 8:45-5:15 & one weekend/month
Schedule B: Monday 8:45-5:15, Wednesday 12:45-9:15, Friday 8:45-12:45 & one weekend/month
Schedule C: Tuesday 8:45-5:15, Thursday 12:45-9:15, Friday 9:00-1:00 & one weekend/month
Schedule D: Tuesday 12:45-9:15, Wednesday 8:45-5:15, Friday 1:15-5:15 & one weekend/month

Benefits:
This includes IMRF (pension plan) and PTO (paid time off) benefits.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Greeting and assisting patrons in person, over the phone, and by email 
Checking library materials in/out 
Handling cash and check transactions and assisting with operating the cash register
Registering and renewing library patrons while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality of library records and patron accounts
Sorting and organizing materials according to established procedures 
Shelving materials and helping maintain a neat and orderly collection
Processing loan requests and deliveries

Experience and Skills Required:
Requirements for this position are:
Excellent written, verbal, and listening, communication skills, both in English and Spanish
The ability to prioritize, multi-task, and perform tasks accurately
Willingness to learn and work with technology in a library setting
Expertise in using good judgment in a variety of situations 

Qualifications include:
High School Diploma (or equivalent work experience)
One or more years of customer service experience; library experience desirable
Proficient technology skills, including Microsoft Windows and Office applications, Google Suite applications, Internet, and the ability to adapt to changing technology
