Free Tire Recycling Event

Pre-registered participants can drop off tires

McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) is sponsoring a tire-recycling event at no cost to McHenry County residents and farming community. Pre-registered participants can drop off tires on Saturday, October 17, from 8 am – Noon at the McHenry County Administration Building (North parking lot) at 667 Ware Road, Woodstock, Illinois. This is an opportunity for our residential households and farming community to remove used/waste tires from their property and help to eliminate potential vector mosquito breeding sites and maximize our recycling rate.

The following event restrictions apply:

  • Pre-registration is required by contacting Kristy Hecke, Solid Waste Manager at 815-334-4585.

  • There is a limit of 20 tires per participant.

  • All tires must be removed from the metal rim and free of water, mud and other debris.

  • Only tires from McHenry County residents and farms will be accepted.

  • Acceptable tires are limited to passenger vehicle, light truck, motorcycle, small trailer and smaller sized tires, semi-truck, rib, narrow sprayer, compact tractor, utility/farm tractor and hay rack tires.

  • Tires that will not be accepted include industrial, heavy equipment and floatation tires. No tires will be accepted from commercial companies or businesses.

The Illinois Department of Public Health via the Used Tire Management Fund provides Grant funding for this tire-recycling event. Treadstone Tire Recycling will recycle the tires.

Please prepare to have the number of tires and types of tires you plan to bring to the event for the pre-registration. Pre-registration acceptance will be based on estimated incoming tires. Pre-registration accepted tires will only be collected while the event is open and staff are present. Grant funding is limited. When the actual amount of tires collected meets the maximum amount of tires allowed by the grant funding, the event duration may be subject to change and will close earlier than the scheduled time of 12 pm.

To pre-register and for more information, contact Kristy Hecke, Solid Waste Manager at 815-334-4585. Please see the flyer for additional information on the MCDH webpage at www.mcdh.info
